Some of the best memories are made long before the day officially begins. This painting was inspired by an overnight sailing regatta from Puerto Vallarta to the tiny fishing village of Tehuamixtle, tucked along the rugged coastline south of Cabo Corrientes. As race committee volunteers, my husband and I spent the night under a canopy of stars, waiting for the sailboats to arrive at the finish line.
As dawn broke over the village, the first rays of sunlight splashed across this humble seaside restaurant, turning its weathered walls into a glowing tapestry of gold, orange, and violet. The quiet streets were still asleep, the palm trees swayed gently overhead, and the promise of a well-earned breakfast lingered in the salty morning air. I snapped a photo, knowing instantly that I wanted to capture that magical moment on canvas.
Painted the following week, this artwork celebrates the beauty of simple places, early mornings, and the unforgettable adventures that come with life on the water. It invites the viewer to pause, breathe in the coastal air, and imagine sitting on those steps as a new day begins in a small Mexican village.
